Minoxidil has been shown to be mostly free of side effects. The side effects are few but the most common are simple contact dermatitis (scalp irritation, dryness, itching, scaling and redness). Rarely, hirsutism has been noted by some women. More serious side effects are rare, but include headache, visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, change in heart rate, lowered blood pressure, chest pain and swelling of extremities, and fatigue. If any side effects occur, discontinue use of Minoxidil and contact your doctor right away. Minoxidil is a topical agent and should never be ingested. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use Minoxidil.
