A hair transplant is a minor surgical procedure that is performed to restore hair to areas of your scalp that are bald or thinning. A hair transplant procedure involves taking grafts of hair from the back and/or sides of your head where your hair is genetically permanent, and relocating them to the needed areas. FUT and FUE Hair Transplants
These are two main different methods of hair transplants you can choose from.
In the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method, a thin strip of skin with hair is removed and divided into pieces. Hair grafts are carefully removed from the strip and then placed into tiny incisions in the scalp. Your head will not need to be shaved using the FUT method but the area where the work is done will be trimmed. You’ll have a scar for a while but it should not be visible unless you have very short hair.
In the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method, the back of your head is shaved and individual hair grafts are removed and placed into tiny cuts in the scalp. You’ll have lots of tiny scars, but they will not be very noticeable.
Either way, hair transplant surgery is usually carried out under local anesthetic and sedation. This means you’ll likely be awake but will not feel any pain.
